Meet Leanna and Marisela. Leanna was a military wife in Georgia, but her husband became abusive. After the divorce, Leanna, her mom (Marisela), her brother, and her 8-year-old daughter moved into a new apartment. They saved to pay for 6 months of rent in New Britain, and with help from For Goodness Sake, they now have beds, dressers, a couch, and everything they need for their home. They are beyond happy with where they are now, and For Goodness Sake is too. They said with the brightest smiles, “This is just incredible!”
Meet Jessica and her 5 kids, Jihad (18), Hadiyah (17), Aaliyah (14), Najah (10) and Sarai (3). Jessica recently was welcomed to For Goodness Sake after she had to move out of her apartment due to lead poisoning of her 3-year-old daughter, whose lead levels were as high as 9. After connecting with For Goodness Sake, she said, “We all really enjoy and appreciate everything. We especially enjoy eating dinner at the table together and watching movies together in the living room.” Something we found so amazing about Jessica is how she wanted to give baked goods as a thank you to her church in West Hartford. She told her kids, “I want to say more than thank you, I want to bake from the heart.” Thanks to For Goodness Sake, Jessica now has cooking tools to continue giving thanks to those that have helped in her journey!!
Meet Jacqueline and her mom. She moved from Enfield to Hartford because of the bad area, and she was in an abusive relationship with the father of her 3 children. Due to an unfortunate situation, she was incarcerated for over a month, but now that she is starting fresh and her 3 children are back with her, she is beyond thankful for what For Goodness Sake was able to do for her.
