Furniture Drive to Help the Formerly Homeless

Plainville, CT, November 12, 2018– On Saturday, November 24, from 10 am to 2 pm, For Goodness Sake will be collecting furniture and gently used household goods in Plainville and Farmington. People can bring items to the drop-off location in the parking lot in front of Lowe’s at 250 New Britain Ave., Plainville, or, for larger items or large loads, they can contact For Goodness Sake to schedule a pickup.

For Goodness Sake is a “furniture bank” that helps local families and individuals moving into an apartment after experiencing homelessness or other crises. The organization, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run entirely by volunteers, provides furniture to make a new house into a home.

The furniture drive gives Farmington and Plainville residents the chance to clean out their clutter, knowing that it will be going to help those less fortunate and not into a landfill. Needed items include furniture such as dressers, small kitchen tables, sofas, lamps and coffee tables, and household goods such as linens, dishes, cookware, microwaves, coffee makers, and vacuum cleaners. All items must be gently used with no stains, holes or rips, and appliances must work and have all parts. For Goodness Sake reserves the right to refuse any item.

For more information and a complete list of items accepted, go to www.forgoodnessake.org. To schedule a pickup in Farmington or Plainville, send an email to furniture@forgoodnessake.org. A minimum donation of $20 is required for pickups to help with truck and gas expenses.

For Goodness Sake provides direct aid, such as furniture and household goods, making an empty space into a home. The organization accepts gently used furniture and household goods from the community and distributes them to people in need, serving families and individuals in Bristol, Burlington, Farmington, Harwinton, New Britain, Plainville, Plantsville, Plymouth, Southington, West Hartford, and Wolcott. Clients must be referred from a partner agency. To learn more about how to donate or volunteer at For Goodness Sake, visit their website at www.forgoodnessake.org.
