For Goodness Sake Expands Service Area

Plainville, CT, October 1, 2019 – For Goodness Sake, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides donated furniture and household goods to individuals and families struggling with homelessness, poverty, and other severe life challenges, has grown dramatically in the last few years and will now be serving clients and picking up donated furniture in an expanded area. For Goodness Sake previously offered its furniture pickup service to towns bordering Bristol and Plainville but will now serve 15 towns in Connecticut: Avon; Berlin; Bristol; Burlington; Cheshire; Cromwell; Farmington; Meriden; Middletown; New Britain; Newington; Plainville; Plantsville; Southington; and West Hartford.

The organization recently merged with Simply Sharing, a furniture bank based in Essex, and took over its service areas of Meriden and Middletown, partnering with agencies such as Columbus House, Chrysalis Center, and Community Health Resources (CHR) Middletown. These agencies refer people who have been homeless or are otherwise in need of furniture due to certain circumstances, such as a house fire.

Since being founded in 2013, For Goodness Sake has provided furniture for over 1,200 families in central Connecticut, and the expanded service area will enable the organization to help even more people.

Kendra Morales, Executive Director of For Goodness Sake, commented, “Since we are now providing furniture to clients in Meriden and Middletown, it only makes sense to expand our furniture pickup service to those towns as well.  People like to know that the furniture they are donating is going to help people nearby—their neighbors that are in need. Because we are growing, we are also able to expand our pickup area to other towns. People love that we pick up their gently used furniture for only a small fee to help pay truck expenses and rent on our warehouse, a fee much less than a junk removal service, and they love knowing that their furniture will be going to a good home with someone who really needs it.”

To schedule a furniture pickup, people can go to www.forgoodnessake.org and fill out the Furniture Pickup Request Form. People can also drop off furniture donations at For Goodness Sake’s warehouse at 123 Whiting Street, Unit A, Plainville, on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm or Sundays from noon to 3 pm.

For Goodness Sake’s mission is to restore dignity and independence to people struggling with homelessness, poverty, and other severe life challenges by providing them with the furniture and basic household goods they need to make their house into a home. Clients include people moving into their first apartment from being on the streets, families moving out of homeless shelters, victims of domestic violence, homeless veterans, and people that are homeless and in need of support for a variety of other reasons.

The organization accepts gently used furniture and household goods from the community. To learn more about how to donate or volunteer at For Goodness Sake, visit their website at www.forgoodnessake.org.
