For Goodness Sake Growing with Six New Partner Agencies
Bristol, CT, April 12, 2018– For Goodness Sake, a local 501c3 nonprofit that provides donated furniture and household goods to individuals and families transitioning to independent living, has partnered with six new agencies, increasing its ability to serve more people in the community. The new partner agencies are: Plainville Social Services; LISA, Inc.; Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury; Friendship Services Center; the New Britain Housing Authority; and The Connection, Inc.
Partner agencies refer clients who have recently moved into a new residence after experiencing homelessness. For Goodness Sake then schedules an appointment for clients to pick out gently used, donated furniture and household goods that they need to make their house into a home. Until recently, For Goodness Sake, which is run entirely by volunteers, was open only on Saturday, and the wait time for client appointments was 3 months long. Thanks to overwhelming support from new volunteers in the community, the organization was able to expand its hours to both Saturdays and Sundays in October 2017, and For Goodness Sake now serves up to eight families each weekend.
The wait time for appointments can now be measured in days or weeks instead of months, and For Goodness Sake is able to accept referrals from more agencies and serve more clients.
Demand for services is high, and with the addition of these six new partner agencies, For Goodness Sake now accepts referrals from over 30 agencies. The six new partners are:
Plainville Social Services, offering a variety of services to residents of Plainville, including information and referral services, case management services, advocacy services, and screening for the food bank
LISA, Inc., dedicated to creating save living spaces for teenagers and families
Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, servicing victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
Friendship Services Center, providing services for the homeless--housing and food for families in the Greater CT area
New Britain Housing Authority, providing decent, safe and sanitary housing to all eligible residents of the City of New Britain
The Connection, Inc., providing services for behavioral health and families dealing with addiction or behavioral issues.
For Goodness Sake provides direct aid, such as furniture and household goods, making an empty space into a home. The organization accepts gently used furniture and household goods from the community and distributes them to people in need, serving families and individuals in Bristol, Burlington, Farmington, Harwinton, New Britain, Plainville, Plantsville, Plymouth, Southington, West Hartford, and Wolcott. Clients must be referred from a partner agency. To learn more about how to donate or volunteer at For Goodness Sake, visit their website at .
